Welcome to World Music at the University of Florida

Welcome to World Music at the University of Florida. I’m Sunni Witmer and I am a PhD candidate in Ethnomusicology. My main area of expertise is on the music of Cuba and Brazil, but I also focus on the music of the entire Caribbean region and Africa as well. In addition, I teach World Music at the University of Florida and have created this blog for my students and anyone else interested in learning about all the wonderful music there is for us to experience from around the world.

Posts to this blog will inform you of many of the different types of music there are in the world as well as provide you with links to other resources. One such resource is Sound Junction:

http://www.soundjunction.org/default.aspa.

Sound Junction is an amazing blog regarding all aspects of music and music production. You can: make your own music using online interactive tools; listen to music from all over the world; talk to composers, mix artists, and producers about how they make their music; talk to over 40 professional musicians about what it means to be a professional musician; learn different musical styles; teach music; and, choose your own style of navigating around the site.

So, check back often to learn about the wonderful world of music… and of course, please feel free to post your comments and other information you have learned. This site is a learning site and all relevant information regarding World Music is welcome. Thanks, and Happy Listening and Learning!
